First, you'll need to know how many to order. Consider how many addresses you're mailing to, not how many guests you're inviting.
Next, consider the formality of your wedding. If it's a formal wedding you'll want to look at engraved and embossed invitations. If your wedding style is more casual, consider a send and seal style of invitation. The send and seal invitations have the RSVP's attached and eliminate an envelope for the RSVP card.
After you've chosen the type of invitation consider the color scheme of the wedding to decide what ink color to use.
Other stationery items to consider include, shower invitations, thank you cards and save the date cards or magnets. Save the date notices are used if you're expecting out of state guests. Knowing your date a few months in advance allows plenty of time to make arrangements and reservations.
